So where did the eight reindeer that work with Santa come from? What’s the story, I mean. It seems that the original idea of the eight flying reindeer comes from an anonymous poem written in 1823 that is recognized today as “Twas the Night Before Christmas”.

The author of that poem actually named the reindeer. And those names stuck! But since the movie “Miracle on 34th Street”, it has been decided that the reindeer only fly on Christmas eve.

So when did Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer appear? Rudolph came along first in a story written by Robert L. May for Montgomery Wards customers’ kids at Christmastime in 1939.
